Injectables

A woman is receiving injectables treatment.

Injectables are used to relax and smoothen wrinkles and to restore volume and structure to the face to achieve a more rested and youthful appearance.

They include neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Examples of neuromodulators are Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. Examples of dermal fillers are Belotero®, Restylane® and Radiesse®.

Our initial consultation focuses on understanding your unique needs before crafting a tailored treatment plan to unveil the natural-appearing rejuvenated skin you desire. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are also used for lip augmentation.

Lip Augmentation

A woman is receiving lip augmentation treatment.

Whether you are looking to have more attractive, pout-worthy lips or to subtly restore the volume your lips have lost over time, we offer natural-looking lip enhancement with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and sometimes with neuromodulators (“lip flip”).

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

A woman after receiving intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment.

IPL is an energy-based non-laser technology whereby specific filters are applied to harness light energy to address various undesired skin features. At Aura Dermatologie, we use Lumenis M22TM’s Universal IPL to treat or improve the following concerns in individuals with lighter skin complexion:

  • Dilated vessels associated with rosacea or UV-induced skin aging
  • Superficial angiomas
  • Red acne scars
  • Red stretch marks
  • Hyperpigmentation caused by UV-induced skin aging
  • Unwanted freckles

After assessing your unique needs, we may recommend combining this treatment with a vascular laser treatment or other procedures to help you achieve your skin goals.

Vascular Laser

At Aura Dermatologie, we use Lumenis M22TM’s  1064nm Nd:YAG laser to treat or improve the following concerns in all skin complexions:

  • Dilated vessels located deeper in the skin
  • Angiomas located deeper in the skin
  • Dilated veins on the lips
  • Leg veins

After assessing your unique needs, we may recommend combining this treatment with IPL or other procedures to help you achieve your skin goals.

Microneedling

Microneedling involves the intentional use of small needles to trigger the skin’s natural healing process, thereby stimulate collagen production. Microneedling can be done at any season of the year and is a safe procedure for all skin complexions.

At Aura Dermatologie, we believe in offering the best to our clients. This is why we use the SkinPen® Precision system – the world’s most reliable and only Health Canada/FDA-approved microneedling device – for our treatments.

Microneedling can be done for the following concerns:

  • Acne scars
  • Neck wrinkles
  • Burn scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

A woman is receiving platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is primarily used to treat hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia (also known as “male-pattern hair loss” and “female-pattern hair loss”). It is an adjunctive treatment that is used to boost hair growth. For this treatment, your own blood is centrifuged to isolate your plasma and platelets. This mixture, which contains growth factors, is then re-injected into the scalp to stimulate hair growth.

A hair loss consultation with our board-certified dermatologist is the first step to getting an accurate diagnosis for your hair loss concern and discussing a personalized treatment plan that meets your unique needs.

Chemical Peels

A woman is receiving chemical peel treatment.

During chemical peels, a solution is applied to the skin to intentionally cause peeling at the desired depth to treat various concerns.

At Aura Dermatologie, we offer the following types of chemical peels for the following concerns:

Salicylic Acid Peel

Jessner’s Peel

Botox® for Hyperhidrosis

When topical treatments fail, Botox® can effectively improve excessive sweating for up to 6 months. It works by preventing small nerves from stimulating sweat glands. Injections are primarily performed for axillary (under-arm) excessive sweating.

Dermoscopy

Dr. Amina Bougrine is performing dermoscopy.

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive imaging technique that allows the visualization and magnification of colors and structures in the skin that are not visible to the naked eye. It has been shown to be superior to the naked eye examination when screening for melanoma and other types of skin cancer.

Benefits of dermoscopy include a faster and more accurate diagnosis of skin cancer, the ability to detect melanoma at an earlier stage, and the avoidance of unnecessary biopsies.

At Aura Dermatologie, if you are coming in for a skin cancer screening examination, you are guaranteed a state-of-the-art complete skin examination which always includes dermoscopy.

Total Body Photography (Mole Mapping)

Total body photography (TBP) is a non-invasive skin imaging technique that involves the capture of standardized photographs to map moles on your body and track them over time.

It is a state-of-the-art documentation tool that allows our dermatologist to accurately and systematically identify new or changing moles, thereby increasing the chances of diagnosing melanoma at its earliest stages. TBP has also been shown to reduce the number of unnecessary procedures such as biopsies.

We use DermEngine’s technology, with the option to use an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist our board-certified dermatologist in analyzing your images.
Total body photography is helpful if:

  • You have more than 50 moles and have 1 or more of the following:
    • A personal history of one or more cutaneous melanomas
    • A personal history of an amelanotic melanoma
    • Multiple pink moles
    • Multiple atypical moles
    • Family history of melanoma in a first-degree relative
  • You have a genetic syndrome or a mutation that predisposes to the development of cutaneous melanoma (for example: FAMMM Syndrome/CDKN2A mutation, BAP1, BRCA2 or POT1 mutation)

At Aura Dermatologie, we do not offer TBP to patients who are not considered to be at high-risk for melanoma, as this tool has not been shown to provide benefit in such cases.

Cryosurgery

A woman is receiving cryosurgery.

Cryosurgery involves the use of cold temperature (-196C) to cause localized, controlled freezing of the skin to treat various conditions. This is done by applying liquid nitrogen for a few seconds to the desired intensity and depth to achieve the goal of treatment.

Cryosurgery is most commonly used to treat the following concerns:

  • Seborrheic keratoses
  • Actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous spots)
  • Warts
  • Sebaceous hyperplasia

Corticosteroid Injections

Corticosteroids have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. This treatment can be applied directly and precisely to the skin to obtain the desired anti-inflammatory effect or cosmetic improvement. This treatment is used for the following concerns:

  • Scars (hypertrophic or keloid), including acne scars
  • Inflamed cysts, including acne cysts
  • Some types of hair loss like alopecia areata and scarring alopecias
  • Some localized inflammatory conditions

Electrosurgery

Electrosurgery involves the controlled application of heat or electricity to remove or treat undesired skin lesions. Electrosurgery is most commonly used to address the following concerns:

  • Skin tags
  • Seborrheic keratoses
  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra
  • Sebaceous hyperplasia
  • Skin cancer (as part of the ED&C procedure)
