What is vascular laser treatment?
A vascular laser treatment is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure performed at our office that uses a specific laser energy to target and eliminate unwanted blood vessels in the skin. This treatment is commonly used to treat conditions such as spider veins, rosacea, and broken blood vessels.
The laser works by producing a specific wavelength of light absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels. This heats the blood vessels, causing them to eventually collapse and disappear over time. The laser does not affect the surrounding skin and tissues, making it an ideal treatment option when operated appropriately.
What can be achieved with vascular laser treatments?
At Aura Dermatologie, we use the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) to treat or improve the following concerns on all skin types (including dark skin tones):
- Dilated vessels located deeper in the skin
- Angiomas located deeper in the skin
- Dilated veins on the lips
- Varicose veins on the legs
- Blue and purple veins
After assessing your unique needs during your pre-treatment consultation, we may recommend combining this treatment with IPL or other procedures to help you achieve enhanced results. Creating a customized plan with our board-certified dermatologist, certified in Canada (FRCPC) and the United States (DABD), is the recommended way to see changes in your skin’s overall health and appearance.
What are the risks and side effects?
As is the case with most aesthetic treatments, vascular laser therapy has potential risks and side effects you can discuss with your doctor before beginning treatment. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Temporary redness and swelling, similar to a mild sunburn
- Mild bruising in some cases
- Pigment changes, more common in certain skin tones
- Risk of infection, as with many skin treatments
- Rarely, scarring may occur
- In rare cases, more serious complications may occur
