Understanding how microneedling works
Today’s technology and new techniques make it easier than ever to get healthier, more radiant and youthful-looking skin in a few visits — without invasive surgical procedures. Dr. Amina Bougrine and her team at Aura Dermatologie in Montreal, Quebec, believe in offering a selection of non-invasive treatments to improve skin quality, including microneedling, also known as “collagen induction therapy.”
What is microneedling?
Microneedling involves using tiny needles to intentionally trigger the skin’s natural healing process, thereby stimulating collagen production. It can be performed at any time of the year and is safe for all skin tones.
Which device is used to perform microneedling treatments?
At Aura Dermatologie, we want to offer the best to our patients. That’s why we use the SkinPen® Precision system – the most reliable microneedling device in the world and the only one approved by Health Canada and the FDA – for our treatments.
What can microneedling do for me?
Microneedling can be performed for the following concerns:
- Superficial wrinkles of the face and neck
- Scars including acne scars, burn scars and surgical scars
- Hyperpigmentation
- Melasma
- Striae (stretch marks)
Microneedling can also be used to improve overall skin quality including dullness, uneven tone and texture.
How often do I need to repeat microneedling treatments?
During your initial consultation at Aura Dermatologie, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns with our board-certified dermatologist and design a treatment plan that will help you achieve realistic goals to bring you closer to your ideal. You will learn about risks and benefits of all the services we offer in our practice and decide if microneedling is the best treatment for your needs. During the consultation, depending on your specific concern and the diagnosis made by our dermatologist, you will also discuss the number of treatments recommended to achieve the results you desire. The number of sessions required may range from 3 to 6. Most treatment sessions are scheduled 4 weeks apart to allow for proper healing and recovery.
