What is a chemical peel, and how can it benefit my skin?

Our team at Aura Dermatologie believes in offering medical and cosmetic skin solutions for men and women in and around Montreal, Quebec. We understand how certain imperfections on the face can make patients incredibly self-conscious about their appearance. Fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and sun damage can leave behind imperfections on the skin that can affect every moment of our daily life. At Aura Dermatologie, Dr. Amina Bougrine and her team can help with treatments such as chemical peels.

What is the chemical peel treatment?

Chemical peels can be used to address various skin concerns. During the peel, a solution containing a blend of specific molecules is used to induce peeling of the skin at the desired depth and stimulate cell turnover. Peels can be used as a skin rejuvenation treatment that provides chemical exfoliation to enhance the skin’s health and appearance, and can also be used to treat dermatologic conditions such as acne.

What happens during a chemical peel?

During a chemical peel, a solution is applied to the skin to intentionally cause the skin to peel to the desired depth. There are different types of peels, and the chemical peeling treatment plan is curated specifically for each patient based on various factors including their skin type, the diagnosis made by the dermatologist, how aggressive of a treatment the patient is willing to tolerate as well as their specific concerns and the severity of the latter.

At Aura Dermatologie, we offer these types of peels for the following concerns:

  • Salicylic acid peel is used to improve active inflammatory acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels are used to treat acne scars using the CROSS technique and to treat xanthelasma.
  • Jessner’s peel is used to achieve smoother skin texture, give radiance to a dull complexion, and address superficial melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, as well as undesired freckles and sunspots.
  • Brody’s Peel is suitable for treating fine to medium wrinkles, freckles, sunspots, and deeper melasma.
