Topical treatments and Botox® injections for hyperhidrosis

Excessive, uncontrolled sweating can lead to distress, embarrassment and loss of confidence. From uncomfortable handshakes to visible sweat stains, conditions like sweaty palms and under-arms can hinder your ability to fully engage in social interactions. During your consultation for excessive sweating, our board-certified dermatologist will assess if there are any underlying triggers to your excessive sweating and counsel you on prescription-grade solutions tailored to you.

At Aura Dermatologie, our dermatologist in Montreal, Quebec, is here to help you by offering solutions such as topical treatments and Botox® injections. It all starts with a consultation to assess your unique needs.

What is hyperhidrosis?

A better understanding of this condition will help patients understand more about what can be done. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which the body produces excessive sweat, regardless of external factors such as temperature or physical activity. This results in constant sweating even when the patient rests, causing discomfort and embarrassment in social situations.

What hyperhidrosis treatment is suitable for my needs?

Many of our patients will find prescription-strength antiperspirants effective at addressing their condition. These may come as topical creams or gels that are used daily to reduce sweating. Some oral medications can also be prescribed for excessive sweating depending on the distribution. Alternatively, injectable Botox® is effective for the treatment of excessive sweating localized to the armpits (axillae) with results lasting up to 6 months.

How is Botox used for patients with excessive sweating?

When topical treatments fail or are not indicated for our patients, another option is Botox®. Botox® can improve excessive sweating effectively for up to 6 months. This treatment works by blocking signals between nerves and sweat glands to reduce sweating in those with hyperhidrosis.
